RUN-OFF RESULTS
On July 23, well-funded Charter School Advocate Nury Martinez beat a great progressive at the ballot box by a margin of 54%-45% in an election that saw only 10,029 ballots cast. Looked at another way, if we could have gotten 1,030 more people to the polls, or changed only 515 minds, Cindy Montañez would have been sitting on the council as a progressive voice helping Mayor Garcetti make Los Angeles a more progressive city.
As far as campaign contributions ran, Cindy had more personal contributions - however Nury had a whole lot more money spent on her behalf by Independent Expenditure groups - the equivalent of local Super Pacs.
Let's not let this happen again. Really.
We thank everyone who who worked on a hard-fought campaign. We look forward to seeing the impact of your experience on future races as we reawaken the liberal spirit in our town.
We all hope to see Cindy Montañez throw her hat in the ring again, and soon. We need her kind of leadership. Thank you Cindy!
Let's get CINDY MONTAÑEZ elected to represent
LA City Council District 6 on JULY 23rd!
Cindy Montañez was an outstanding progressive in the California Assembly. She lost her race for state senate to a well-funded corporate candidate. Now she's running for City Council against Nury Martinez, who was the go-to person for the Charter Schools on the School Board. It's important that the new LA City Council contains enough progressives to help our new mayor Eric Garcetti to get his agenda through. That's why we need to elect Cindy Montañez to the Los Angeles City Council.
Voter turnout is expected to be very low.
YOUR TIME ON THE PHONE can have a VERY REAL IMPACT on building
A MORE PROGRESSIVE LOS ANGELES!
