State Assembly Endorsements

ADA SoCal Endorses Pilar Schaivo  for State Assembly District 40

Pilar is the only candidate endorsed by the Democratic Party, nurses, teachers, Planned Parenthood and Sierra Club. She will make sure big corporations and billionaires pay their fair share so we can cut taxes for small businesses, seniors, veterans, and regular people like you and me. Pilar is an independent voice who will stand up to corporations and those in power, even if they’re in her own party.

For more than 20 years, Pilar Schiavo has been an independent voice, delivering good jobs, affordable housing, solutions to homelessness and health care.

Pilar helped provide healthcare - including reproductive healthcare - to more than one million people. She also co-founded an organization that has delivered more than 40,000 meals to people in need, helped secure housing for veterans experiencing homelessness, and has increased resources to keep our communities safe.

NICK SHULTZ ASSEMBLY

ADA SoCal Endorses John Yi
for State Assembly District 54

Born in LA’s Koreatown, where my parents immigrated from South Korea in the 1970s, I have been a nonprofit advocate fighting for policies that impact our families, immigrants, public health, and the environment.

I was the Executive Director of Los Angeles Walks, where I worked with promotoras and the community to improve sidewalk and pedestrian infrastructure. My nonprofit work also includes organizing for more stringent tail-pipe emission standards, repealing CA’s discriminatory jaywalking law, fighting for LA Metro Transit Ambassadors, and pushing for $1.75 million in annual CDC funding for children with Tourette Syndrome.

I decided to run for office after seeing what many of our seniors in District 54 are experiencing. With my own grandfather, we were unable to find affordable senior housing. The lack of safe public recreation spaces, especially for lonely seniors, made the local McDonald’s the only place to socialize. Fast traffic is killing our elders at shocking rates. If we serve our seniors, we serve all.

I graduated with my BA from the University of Michigan (Go Blue!) and I went to graduate school at Georgetown University, where I received my MA. I live with my husband, David, and our rescue poodle-mix, Wilshire.

His powerful combination of lived and learned experience is one of the reasons his voice has been so impactful for residents of the 55th District.
